Measure 26-243 would result in the Flood Safety District issuing bonds, payable from taxes on property, to upgrade infrastructure and protect water quality, communities, businesses and the environment from flooding. It would also require independent oversight.

what it will do for our communities: 

Among other improvements, this bond would upgrade the aging flood safety infrastructure along the Columbia River, which is currently over 100 years old and suffering from the increased threats of climate change.

Although this introduces a new tax, it will help to support existing floodplains and curb overflow onto properties, especially those that are near the Columbia River.
